VP of Engineering

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the company’s technology vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business goals.

  • Lead architectural decisions ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Drive innovation in AI/ML models, digital phenotyping, and passive sensing technologies.

  • Establish engineering best practices, development processes, and quality standards.

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies enhancing product capabilities.

  • Make build vs. buy decisions and manage technology stack evolution.

Software Engineering & Architecture

  • Design and implement scalable system architecture for mobile and cloud applications.

  • Oversee iOS and Android development for seamless user experiences.

  • Architect backend systems, APIs, and microservices infrastructure.

  • Ensure code quality through reviews, testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Lead decisions on frameworks, languages, and tools.

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems.

Data Engineering & AI/ML

  • Architect data infrastructure for secure large-scale health data collection and processing.

  • Design real-time and batch pipelines for digital phenotyping signals.

  • Lead development and deployment of ML models for mental health risk detection.

  • Establish data governance ensuring privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

  • Build analytics capabilities for clinical validation and product insights.

  • Collaborate with research teams to translate clinical requirements into technical implementations.

Regulatory & Security Compliance

  • Ensure platform compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, PDPA.

  • Implement security best practices including encryption, authentication, and access controls.

  • Lead technical aspects of regulatory submissions and audits.

  • Establish data protection and incident response protocols.

  • Work with clinical and legal teams on IRB and data handling requirements.

Team Building & Management

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering team across full-stack, mobile, data, and ML.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Manage resources, priorities, and delivery timelines.

  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional growth.

  • Partner with product and clinical teams to turn requirements into solutions.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with CEO on strategic technology decisions.

  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, investors, and customers.

  • Collaborate with researchers to ensure platform alignment with study protocols.

  • Represent the company at industry conferences and technical forums.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in senior technical leadership roles

  • Proven track record of building and scaling technology platforms from early stage to production

  • Experience leading engineering teams of min. 5 people

  • Prior CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent leadership experience in startup or high-growth environment

  • Working knowledge of digital phenotyping, passive sensing, or wearable device integration

Technical Expertise

  • Deep expertise in software architecture, system design, and distributed systems

  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages

  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code

  • Expertise in mobile application development (iOS and Android native or cross-platform)

  • Strong background in data engineering and warehousing

  • Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks

  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and optimization

  • Experience with containerization and microservices architecture

  • Knowledge of API design, RESTful services, and real-time data streaming
