NYP Open House 2025 & 2026
I had the opportunity to participate in the NYP Open House for two consecutive years, and it was an experience that taught me the joy of helping others while building meaningful connections. In 2025, I worked at the demonstration booth, teaching visitors how to insert an endotracheal tube—a skill not yet taught in Year 1. It was exciting to share knowledge I had learned in advance and see others engage with curiosity and enthusiasm.
In 2026, I was pleasantly surprised when many Year 1 students recognized me and shared that they were inspired by me to pursue nursing and become NYP ambassadors themselves. Knowing that my involvement could influence others motivated me to contribute even more actively. My teachers praised my work at the open house and invited me to assist at other booths, which further encouraged me to develop my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
St John Ambulance Malaysia – Secondary School CCA
As President of my school’s St John Ambulance CCA, leading a group of 70 students, I built a strong foundation in first aid, teamwork, and leadership. I learned to communicate effectively with both students and teachers, skills that proved invaluable during my medical attachments, where I often assumed a leadership role for small group tasks.
I also actively volunteered in blood donation drives, helping manage donors and providing guidance. These experiences honed my people skills, patience, and empathy, as I interacted with donors and ensured their comfort throughout the process.
School Graduation Ceremony – MC
I was honoured to be selected as the Master of Ceremonies for my secondary school graduation, a unique opportunity to host my own graduation. This experience taught me public speaking, presentation skills, and how to manage unexpected situations, boosting my confidence in both formal and professional settings.
Church Activities & Community Involvement
Being a practicing Catholic, I actively participate in church activities, particularly singing for worship and Christmas caroling. Performing for the community not only brings joy to others but also energizes me personally. Engaging in these activities has strengthened my sense of community, service, and empathy, qualities that are essential for nursing.
Summary
Through my CCAs and voluntary services, I have learned the importance of leadership, teamwork, empathy, and effective communication. These experiences have shaped me into a person who enjoys helping others, inspiring peers, and contributing meaningfully to the community—qualities that I carry into my nursing journey and hope to bring to the Operating Theatre.
