Civic Internship Programme (E.P.I.C. Award)
As part of the Civic Internship Programme, my team and I were introduced to Human-Animal Bond In Ministry (HIM), a nonprofit supporting ex-offenders and their families. Our challenge was to find ways to publicise HIM’s work to increase public awareness and engagement.
My group was tasked with developing a strategy to boost HIM’s visibility. We needed to propose and implement actionable solutions to help the organisation reach a wider audience.
We focused on social media outreach, creating three key deliverables:
- HIM Instagram Toolkit – Set up the account, designed introductory posts, and prepared a user guide.
- HIM Telegram Channel – Suggested using Telegram for announcements and volunteer coordination.
- HIM Linktree – Centralised important links (email, WhatsApp, social media) for easy access.
After the initial pitch, our team was selected to implement these solutions.
With a soft Instagram launch on 1 November, the project was successfully completed on 13 November 2021, gaining 76 followers and 16 Telegram subscribers. Inspired by HIM’s mission, my friend and I continued volunteering, helping bake pet food for their cause. Through this experience, I strengthened my leadership and teamwork skills while coordinating with my group and Adeline.
Our efforts were recognised with a nomination for Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s E.P.I.C. Award, which we won alongside 19 other impactful projects. This experience reinforced the value of community-driven solutions and the power of digital outreach in supporting meaningful causes.
